Rules of the Road

  • Seating is Limited - Reservations are required.  Please Call 703-471-9649 to make reservations or email Lucinda@thewineseller.com.  Reservations will be confirmed 2-3 days prior to the class by telephone.
     
  • Credit Card Confirmation required at time of reservation; however, class charge will not be processed until the day of the class.
     
  • Cancellations must be made 48 hours in advance.
     
  • If you must cancel within 48 hours of the class, we will make every effort to fill your seat as we will have a waiting list for each class.  If we can fill your seat, you will not be charged anything.  If we cannot fill your seat, there will be a $10 charge.
     
  • Classes run 7:00pm to 8:00pm on the first Tuesday of each month.
     

Everything in the store (but Beer) is 10% off the evening of the class to all attendees!!

Tuesday, March 25, 2008 – Component Tasting Class

Ever find yourself puzzled when someone says, “this wine shows notes of milk chocolate, black currants and cassis”?  What about sugar, acid and tannins?  We’ll break down the wine world by comparing different common components found in white and red wines and then trying some wines which show off those notes and traits. 

Price:  $50 per person

Tuesday, April 1, 2008 – Sake

Sake is one of those departments in the Wine World which is like a black hole.  What it is?  What is it made from?  Is it good?  With what does it go?  We’ll unravel the World of Sake with our Sake expert, Katie Aspen, in from New York who works at Joto Sake as a Sales Manager.  We’ll learn all about the different types and styles and try some foods which lend themselves nicely when paired with the right Sake.

Have you been bitten by “the wine bug” and want to learn more about wine?  We’ll take you a Tour de Force around the wine world as we discover grape varietals, wine growing regions and vinification processes.  We’ll try the basic grape varietals and discover stylistically what flavor profile of wines you enjoy which will in turn, make you a more savvy shopper and diner.

Tuesday, May 20, 2008 – Wine & Cheese:  Build a Cheese Platter to Work with Wine

Everybody loves to put together a cheese platter when they entertain.  What cheeses work best together on a cheese platter?  And how do you figure out what wines work best with all the different cheeses?  We’ll show you how to put together a delectable cheese platter and taste some wine options which will make you sing.  Cheeses will be from Cowgirl Creamery.

Herbs are one of the most important components in matching foods with wine.  We’ll see how several of the herbs found in every kitchen (Sage, Rosemary, Basil, Thyme, Oregano) work well with different wines.  This will help you in choosing wines to go with meals you prepare at home.

Tuesday, July 1, 2008 – Mediterranean Discovery:  Tour the Wines & Foods from the Countryside of Spain, France, Italy, Greece & Lebanon

We’ll tour the countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea – Spain, France, Italy, Greece and Lebanon – and try some of their wines and foods which are enjoyed during the summer months.  I strongly suspect a Rose might worm its way into our tasting lineup!

Tuesday, October 7, 2008 – Say Pinot!  Discover Pinot Noir and Its Cousins, Pinot Blanc & Pinot Gris

Meet Pinot Noir and its cousins, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris.  We’ll take a comparative tour of styles of these three grapes with wines from the Alsace and Burgundy regions of France, Oregon, Italy and New Zealand.  We’ll also try some foods which are classic pairings with these grape varietals.

Don’t feel overwhelmed anymore in a restaurant which has a wine list rivaling War & Peace.  And still enjoy your meal by learning how to find a hidden gem in a limited wine list.  We’ll examine some restaurant wine lists and learn how to successfully navigate them by avoiding the pitfalls and unearthing the jewels.  Dining out will never be the same again!

Tuesday, November 11, 2008 - Organic, Biodynamic, Sustainable Agriculture....What does it all mean?

We'll go over the regulations and differences between organic wines and biodynamic wines as well as learn about the growing wave of sustainable agriculture practices going on in the wine industry today. Then, we'll try some wines which are neither organic or biodynamic alongside both organic and biodynamic wines. Food will be served and Jason Bise of The Country Vintner will be the co-pilot with Lucinda. $45 per person.

Tuesday, December 2, 2008 – Come See Some Stars!  Discover the Sparkling World of Champagnes & Other Bubblies from Around the Globe

Dom Perignon’s famous quote after drinking Champagne was “I’m seeing stars!”  We’ll see some stars of our own in this tour of fantastic bubblies from around the globe including Champagne as well as Prosecco, Cava and sparkling wines from America, Hungary and the Southern Hemisphere.  Plus, we’ll see how various foods just sing with bubbles.
