Wine Features of the Month (WFOM) for April

Each month, we feature a bubbly, a white and a red which we feel are terrific, perhaps off-the-beaten-path picks or from unknown producers.  We think they'll go well with the food of the season and all are discounted so that they are more affordable 'Saturday Night Specials'.  Here are the selections.

  • Cono Sur Sparkling Brut NV Made from the native grape known as Prie Blanc, these grapes are grown at the foot of Mont Blanc in one of the highest vineyards in Europe.  This is an excellent wine for seafoods including shellfish - full or crisp, rich minerals along with delicate and floral flavors.  Normally priced at $19.99 per bottle, specially priced at $17.99 for the month of April.
  • Shaya Habis Rueda Veredjo Old Vines 2008 Rich in weight on the palate like a Chardonnay but without imparting lots of heavy oak flavors, this old vine Verdejo from the Rueda region in north central Spain offers loads of tropical fruit on the palate.  Definitely a food wine more than a quaffer and perfect with pork tenderloin or ham for Easter.  Normally $34.99 per bottle, specially priced at $29.99 for the month of April.
  • Claiborne Churchill Edna Valley Pinot Noir 2007 - I am TRULY diggin' this Pinot Noir which even at its 'regular' price is one tasty Pinot Noir.  Nice and fleshy on the palate with hints of spicebox, this is one of those wines which before you know it, it's all gone and you wished you purchased two bottles on the same trip!  Normally priced at $29.99 per bottle, specially priced at $26.99 for the month of April.
